BLAST results for various viruses using diverse Entrez filters as shown. (Translated viral genome vs. human proteins) Links to the BLAST are provided: The filter can be changed at will in the Entrez query section of the BLAST input page: For example "myelin", "multiple sclerosis" or "vitamin D" can be used for the viral BLASTS: For the autoantigen BLASTS, the species of virus targeted (or any other: e.g. bacteria) can also be changed. in the "Organism" field
Blast results for various myltiple sclerosis autoantigens and for EIF2B5 are also shown: Protein vs. protein. The species of virus (or bacteria or others) can be modified in the "organism" input in the "Choose search set section".
The BLAST paraneters are set to very low significance levels (E=-100000 ). This is because the BLAST algorithm is testing for identity between two entire proteins, and not for short intraprotein contiguous sequences. These can only be found by using such low p values and have to be identified by eye, scrolling down each results page.
The black streaks in these figures correspond to viral vatches within the human proteome.
